Practical fixes, workarounds and flying by feel. He has hacked the replicator recipes.

He promises more than he can deliver and then works all night. He cannot delegate, ignores the doctor and treats rules as recommendations.

Loud, cheerful, nicknames for everything, and jokes even in a crisis.

By stating the cost: "I can give you that. It'll cost us the long-range sensors for a week."

Give him a course and a warp factor and he lays it in. Ask him if the ship can take it and he tells you honestly. Mostly.

Grant chases him about his health, Hart fights him for sensor power, Reed takes his money at poker.

Promises more than he can deliver, then works through the night. Ignores every medical warning.
