IKAREE

Voice command

A VR game you play with your voice

In IKAREE you run the ship the way a captain does: out loud. Hold the communicator button and speak naturally. No keyword lists, no menus. An AI-driven crew understands what you mean, answers in their own voices and carries out the order on the ship.

How it works

  1. You speak. Hold the communicator button on the controller and give your order. Release it when you're done.
  2. Speech becomes text. A speech recognition service turns your words into text, in English or Czech.
  3. The crew thinks. An AI language model that knows the ship's state, the story and each officer's personality writes the reply and the actions on the ship.
  4. The officer answers. The right officer replies in their own synthetic voice, lip-synced, and the ship does it: the course is laid in, the probe launches, the shields go up.

Many common lines are pre-recorded and play instantly. Officers can be interrupted mid-sentence, the way you would cut someone off on a real bridge.

Bridge channel
  1. CaptainHelm, take us in closer.
  2. Reed · First OfficerCaptain, may I suggest raising shields first?
  3. CaptainAgreed. Shields up, then take us in.
  4. Cole · TacticalShields are up. Not that anyone asked.
Illustrative exchange. In the game every reply is generated live.

What you can say, station by station

Examples only. Say it your own way; the crew understands intent, not exact phrases.

Helm Daniel Brooks

  • “Set a course for Europa. Full impulse.”
  • “Warp six to Proxima Centauri b. Engage.”
  • “Take us into a polar orbit.”
  • “Bring us alongside that freighter.”
  • “Slingshot around the star.”
  • “All stop.”

Science Emily Hart

  • “Scan the planet.”
  • “Run a full analysis.”
  • “Switch the main screen to thermal.”
  • “Launch a survey probe to the surface.”
  • “What star is that?”
  • “Are there life signs?”

Tactical Ryan Cole

  • “Red alert. Shields up.”
  • “Hail them.”
  • “Lock the tractor beam.”
  • “Fire phasers.”
  • “Silent running.”
  • “Put the tactical map on screen.”

Command Thomas Reed

  • “Number One, your recommendation?”
  • “Options, people.”
  • “Captain's log: we left Earth to test the new crew.”
  • “Make it so.”
  • “Stand down.”

Counsel Sarah Bennett

  • “Counsellor, what do they really want?”
  • “How is the crew holding up?”
  • “Am I making a mistake?”

Medical Helen Grant

  • “Doctor, what's the radiation dose out there?”
  • “Is it safe to beam them aboard?”
  • “How long can they survive on that ship?”

Manoeuvres

Approach, circle, fly-by, interpose, come alongside, hide behind a planet, slingshot around a star. Name the manoeuvre and the target, and the helm flies it.

An internet connection and a microphone. The headset's built-in microphone is enough. Basic commands are also on the armrest panels of the captain's chair.
