Season 1 · Episode 05 · about 30 minutes
Hatchling
At the orange giant Eltanin a vast creature dies, and something hatches.
The story
At the edge of Eltanin's atmosphere the IKAREE finds a herd of enormous creatures grazing on stellar plasma, their sails kilometres long. One old animal keeps to itself. What happens next is an accident, and it leaves you with something that thinks the ship is its mother.
The choice
Can a starship afford to be anyone's mother? Can it afford to walk away?
Your officers
Hart is in love with the science. Brooks is watching the warp field drain. Reed questions both.
No spoilers beyond the opening. The rest depends on you.
